The most famous and important place to visit in Aurangabad is Ajanta and Ellora caves. It is the most historically significant asset of the city. These caves are situated 99 km from the main city of Aurangabad and are some of the finest specimens of rich Indian heritage. The Ajanta caves were built around the 2nd to the 6th century A.D. and Ellora Caves were built sometime during the 6th and 11th century A.D. These caves were carved out from a single rock and cave paintings inside that are thousands of years old, give you a breathtaking insight into the history of art and culture in India.

Itinerary

Day 1 (02 Jan): Pune to Aurangabad (235kms / 5-6 hours) 

  • Depart from Pune with a representative to assist you with your Aurangabad getaway.
  • Smoothly check into your hotel in Aurangabad upon arrival for a hassle-free start to your trip.
  • Enjoy an overnight stay in Aurangabad.

 

Day 2 (03 Jan): Visit Ajanta & Ellora Caves

  • Post breakfast in the morning and set out to explore the historic caves of Ajanta
  • Ajanta caves includes 30 rock-cut buddist cave monuments which dates back to 2nd century. You will get to witness the carved paintings, structures depicting ancient Indian art, which was inspired by buddhist religious art.
  • Later gear up to explore the UNESCO world heritage, Ellora Caves.
  • You will get a chance to witness one of the largest rock-cut monastery-temple cave complexes in the world. Which features Hindu, Buddhist and Jain monuments and artwork.
  • As the day ends, return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

 

Day 3 (04 Jan): Aurangabad to Lonavala (345kms / 6-7 hours) 

  • Start your day in Aurangabad with a hearty breakfast before checking out from the hotel.
  • Head to visit the Bibi Ka Maqbara, a memorial to Rabia Durrani, wife of Ruler Aurangzeb.
  • Embark on a journey to Lonavala, where you'll arrive and smoothly check into your hotel.
  • Take the opportunity to rest and unwind for the remainder of the day.
  • Overnight stay in Lonavala

 

Day 4 (05 Jan): Lonavala Sightseeing 

  • Begin your day with breakfast and a visit to Rajmachi Point for breathtaking views of the hills and valleys.
  • See a panoramic view of the Konkan area from Koraigad Fort
  • Visit Tikona fort, Lohagad fort two of the four major historic forts within the Konkan coasts and the Western Ghats
  • Lion’s Point is another tourist favourite in this region. You may also access this site while driving between Bhushi Dam and Aamby Valley in Lonavala.
  • Engage in an informative excursion to the Karla and Bhaja Caves, two Buddhist caves that are examples of the interesting cave architecture in the 2nd-century BC.
  • Take in the natural beauty of Lonavala Lake, a serene lake surrounded by hills and greenery. Boating is also available (at your own cost).
  • Return to your hotel or resort to relax for the evening, while cherishing the memories of the day's exploration.

Day 5 (06 Jan): Lonavala to Mumbai (90kms / 2-3 hours) 

  • Check out of your hotel or resort and begin your drive back to Mumbai.
  • Arrive in Mumbai and get dropped off at your preferred location, concluding your 5 days Lonavala & Aurangabad tour package.
